Review ~ Firefight (Reckoners #2) by Brandon Sanderson

Summary:

They told David it was impossible--that even the Reckoners had never killed a High Epic. Yet, Steelheart--invincible, immortal, unconquerable--is dead. And he died by David's hand.

Eliminating Steelheart was supposed to make life more simple. Instead, it only made David realize he has questions. Big ones. And there's no one in Newcago who can give him the answers he needs.

Babylon Restored, the old borough of Manhattan, has possibilities, though. Ruled by the mysterious High Epic, Regalia, David is sure Babylon Restored will lead him to what he needs to find. And while entering another city oppressed by a High Epic despot is a gamble, David's willing to risk it. Because killing Steelheart left a hole in David's heart. A hole where his thirst for vengeance once lived. Somehow, he filled that hole with another Epic--Firefight. And he's willing to go on a quest darker, and more dangerous even, than the fight against Steelheart to find her, and to get his answers.

Review:

Before we start, I want to say that I love Steelheart the best not just because it was the first in the series, but because I really think Steelheart is the coolest Epic ever!

A little flashback first. The world of in the Reckoners series is a post apocalyptic world. A dystopian/sci-fi hybrid world full of super powered humans, oppressed people, and kick-ass tech. The world is currently ruled by super humans called 'Epics', who by nature, are evil dictators who uses their powers to reign over those who do not have powers. The power of this Epics seems to be coming from a bright red star in the heavens that appeared years ago and still remain in the sky. They called this event Calamity.

The Plot.
Another city? Another High Epic with insane powers? BUT the twist is Babylon Restored (Formerly New York city) is weird because it is a city submerged in water, glowing spray paint and indoor gardens. The people of Babylon Restored are more relax and at ease. Regalia, the High Epic ruling Babylon Restored seems to be treating the citizens right (well after killing a bunch of them when she flooded the place) but that just seems to be a mask as Regalia keeps sending a bunch of High Epics to get Prof and David's attention.

The progressiveness of the plot keeps getting me hooked tighter than a safety rope on a bungee jumper (take that David!). The different Epics, the figuring out the weaknesses, and David's clumsy attempt at being a romantic pretty much keeps me begging for more. Maybe it's just because I can relate to David (not the killing super powered human thing, nor even the metaphor fetish but the whole Megans-super-hot-and-I'm-a-clumsy-awkward-guy feel). I promise once you start with this series, you'll want to be a Reckoner, too. (or an Epic. Really it's that cool)

Bookish Diary ~ The time it was about letting go of my babies. . .

I do not know how to write this blog post because every time I think about selling my books, my eyes sting with tears that I refuse to let go, so I'm just going to say this without further ado.

Yes, I am selling some of those babies. I don't know if anyone will be interested, or if anyone will even see this post, but if someone does you can email me at diaryofabookenthusiast@gmail.com for details. I wish I could have just given them away for free so I could spread the love for books, but the sales of the books will be for my younger sister's college enrollment.

I can assure you that they are in pristine condition. I can email a picture of the book/s if you'd like.

Here is the list of what's for sale:

Most of the signed ones are personalized to me. I'm willing to let it go if someone would like it. I was originally planning to personally hand it to the buyer, but if that is not possible I guess we can arrange for shipment via email. :)

Thank you for reading this post. May you guys have a great day. :)
