Character Feature ~ Harry Copperfield Blackstone Dresden

Contains Spoilers for those who haven't read this yet

I had always loved the Fantasy genre because of it allows authors and even readers to re-imagine the world into a place of magic and excitement. I was always partial to different creatures whether its blood sucking vampires, ogres, forest trolls or even fairies, leprechauns and magical beasts. Incidentally, I read books on them, memorizing characteristics and facts to be stored and used one day when I finally manage to get my head out of the clouds and start cracking down on writing.

The Dresden Files had been going a loooong time (15 books!) and it there were already thirteen books released when I started reading it. The story is a first person narrative told by Harry Copperfield Blackstone Dresden, a wizard with a dark past and even darker upbringing but despite all that he insisted to look on the funny side of things. He is a member of the White Council of wizards, the governing body of all wizards in the whole world. But despite being a member, he was on probation because of the things he did as a kid, meaning if he broke the Laws of Magic he would be executed on the spot.

Ignoring the odds (which he is very good at) Harry opened up a business in Chicago as a private investigator with a title of wizard in the business card. Yes he was crazy enough to do it. Because he was effective the local police department kept him on retainer, allowing Dresden to live off on ramen noodles.

Series of very unfortunate event followed Harry everywhere because of his knight-in-shining-armor routines and his determination to save anyone in need. He had fought vampires, had deals with both the Winter and Summer court of fairies, ghosts, angels, demons and other varieties of monster you could think off.

He had died and was resurrected. Currently, he is now the Winter Knight after the deal he had with the Queen of Air and Darkness Mab to help him retrieve his daughter with his ex-girlfriend slash half-vampire from the Red Court of Vampires in which he manage to slaughter the whole clan and retrieve his daughter (long story), and is now helping the Knights of the Blackened Denarius (mortal and fallen angel team-up bad guys) to steal the Holy Grail from the Lord of the Underworld, Hades.

Why should you read about him? For one thing he has all this crazy stupid adventures with more twist than a slinky but besides that his ability to mouth of to anyone even beings tough enough to squish him without even breaking a sweat is amazing. I mean how many people could take a thumping, get back up, call everyone names and get socked in the face some more?

What's more you can find almost everything here. Vampires? Check. Angels and demons? Check check. Plots that makes your head spin? Triple check.

Besides Harry there are his friends and family: Bob the Skull, Molly, Murphy, Butters, the Knights of the Cross (Yes. The Cross) and others.

My favorite part is that as the story progress, you can be part of how Harry learns about love, friendship, faith, family and keeping your mouth shut at appropriate times. So for those who want to get to know more about the only professional wizard here's the list of all the books so far:

Blood Rites
Dead Beat
Proven Guilty
White Night
